Marvelous Monsters in Movies

George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead didn't fool around.

Karen Cooper - Night of the Living Dead
The film is not only smart, satiric, and revolutionary, it's also brutal as hell. Case in point, Karen Cooper. When cute and innocent little girl reanimates into an undead monster, and then proceeds to eat her father, all horror taboos were tossed out the window.Since then, undead little girls have become a horror cliché (Hell, AMC's The Walking Dead killed one off in its opening scene!). So let's thank George for turning moviegoers into a bunch desensitized, blood-thirsty sickos.
Reanimated Sarah - Suspiria
Before there was Black Swan, there was Suspiria.
Dario Argento's horror/ballet school film is filled with creepy, cringe-worthy moments, but none is more frightening than protagonist Suzy Bannion's best friend Sarah gets trapped in a room filled with razor wire.
Sadly, a peaceful death does not await her. Instead, her corpse becomes possessed by evil (as you could see in the picture above). Natalie Portman had it easy.

Jason Vorhees- The Friday the 13th Film Series
Jason is the manifestation of ignored responsibilities.
If the Camp Crystal Lake counselors spent more time supervising the young campers, and less time wildly screwing each other, they could have spared themselves three decades of being chopped and skewered.
So there you have it, next time you postpone work for a quick on-the-clock romp just think about Jason. Chi-chi-chi, ka-ka-ka.
Large Marge - Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Large Marge terrified me as a kid.
I'll never forget watching Pee Wee's Big Adventure at my grandma's house. I remember falling into the false comfort of this "children's" movie, only to have my tender nerves shattered by a sudden burst of frightening claymation. It still gives me the creeps...
Betelgeuse - Beetlejuice
Michael Keaton takes an inspired turn as the wise-crackin undead Betelgeuse (aka Beetlejuice), a professional spooker who's hired to scare away obnoxious residents and unwanted guests.
One of the most memorable things about Beetlejuice is that the summoned by saying his name three times. Sadly, this doesn't work in real life. Beetlejuice's last appearance was in a early nineties animated show of the same name.
Captain Barbossa - Pirates of the Caribbean
Jack Sparrow may have stole the show, but it's Captain Barbossa that gives Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean it's dark edge.Barbossa is not just an evil pirate, he's an undead evil pirate (suck on that Captain Hook). Plus, he's got an undead evil monkey. It sounds like the screenwriters were thinking more along the line of The Haunted Mansion, the theme park attraction where Eddie Murphy's soul still remains.
Moaning Myrtle - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The halls of Hogwarts are haunted by a number of ghosts, but none are as frightening as Moaning Myrtle. She's loud, obnoxious and a bit perverted. After facing death at the hands of Salazar Slytherin, poor Myrtle is forced to haunt the second floor girl's bathroom for the rest of eternity.Myrtle may have died, but her hormones sure haven't. Here she is, pictured above, groping Harry with her ectoplasm.
Lady in the Bathtub - The Shining
Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is known for plenty of scenes ("Here's Johnny!", "Redrum", etc.) but the most horrifying takes place in Room 237.It's here that Jack sees a beautiful blond bathing. She walks over to him, reaches out to hold him and then they kiss. Sounds wonderful right?
Wrong!

Grace Stewart - The Others
After M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense scared its way into theaters in the summer of 1999 (wow, it's been that long?), every horror movie after needed a twist of its own.Where many imitators failed, The Other succeeded - toying with the viewer's expectations of who "The Others" are.Nicole Kidman plays a terrified mother of two, trying to protect her children from ghosts that may, or may not exist.
Count Dracula - Dracula (1931)
Béla Lugosi brings Bram Stroker's literary character to life in his classic portrayal of the legendary vampire.
It may not have been the first time the character was brought to screen (that would be Count Orlok), but it's definitely the most recognizable. You don't see many people dressing up as Gerard Butler's version for Halloween.
Eli - Let the Right One In
Let the Right One In is a touching Swedish film about a lonely boy,Oskar, and his best friend Eli.
However, Eli wouldn't be on the list if she didn't have a dark side. Her secret? She's an extremely hungry vampire who lives with a serial killer that sustains her by committing countless murders. The plot doesn't sound so sweet anymore, huh?Well, surprisingly enough it is. This is mainly due to Kåre Hedebrant and Lina Leandersson, the film's fantastic two young leads.
Samara Morgan - The Ring (2002)
Meet Samara Morgan.
She's a part-time well dweller, part-time aspiring film maker. Here's a her short film. I think it won some awards.

Dr. Malcolm Crowe - The Sixth Sense
The reveal of Bruce Willis's death at the end of The Sixth Sense rocked the globe. Moviegoers were shocked, awed and baffled. Some even soiled their pants.A decade later we're still left wondering what it all meant. How could M. Night fool us so easily? Had we simply let our guard down?"I see dead people," says Hayley Joel Osment, as he looks directly at Bruce Willis, "all the time." Man, the truth was right in front of us the entire time.

Gage Creed - Pet Sematary
Stephen King's story of a supernatural pet sematary (sic) contains a classic horror theme: "Be careful what you wish for."In Louis Creed's case, his wish is to bring his deceased son back to life. The "being careful" part kicks in when sweet little Gage starts biting, stabbing and jabbing people.Falling victim to Gage's rampage is his mother Rachel, Louis's wife. Does Louis learn his lesson, burying her peacefully in a non-pet cemetary? Give it a watch - or a read - and find out.
Slimer - Ghostbusters
When I was a kid Slimer was an essential part of my life.He was in my toy collection, on my television screen and even on my Hi-C juice box (Ecto Cooler baby). I didn't go a day without kneeling at the temple of the disgusting, green blob.I hope, for my generation's sake, the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel takes Slimer seriously. May the green blob rise again!
Sam Wheat - Ghost
Not all ghosts have to be scary.
In fact, some are just downright romantic. Here's evidence no skeptic could debunk:

Bill Murray - Zombieland
There's some zombie's you just can't get yourself to kill, Bill Murray being one of them. His filmography is fantastic enough to warrant a lifetime past. And an after-lifetime one too.Sadly, Bill Murray bites the bullet in Zombieland, sending the funny man to zombie heaven. However, there's still hope he'll return in Zombieland 2. Come on, have you seen Lost in Translation? Bill could do anything.
